Signs Your Body Is Asking for More Than Time

These are the symptoms Dr. Loretta Barry hears most from postpartum moms across Sacramento. They're common — but that doesn't mean you have to live with them.

How Dr. Loretta Barry Helps

A Real Recovery Plan Built Around Your Birth Story

Postpartum recovery isn't one size fits all. Your delivery, your body, your timeline, and your goals are all different — and your treatment should reflect that. Dr. Loretta Barry builds every program around the specifics of your birth experience and where you are right now.

Breathing mechanics & pressure management. Before any exercise can be loaded safely, your body needs to relearn how to manage intra-abdominal pressure. Breath work is the foundation of everything Dr. Loretta Barry builds.

Pelvic floor reintegration. Whether your pelvic floor is too tight, too weak, or simply not coordinating with your core, Dr. Loretta Barry identifies the exact problem and addresses it with targeted manual therapy and therapeutic exercise.

Progressive loading. Recovery is a progression — not a light switch. Dr. Loretta Barry builds you back from foundational movements to functional strength to full activity, at a pace that protects your healing tissues and builds lasting results.

C-section scar care. Scar tissue from a cesarean can restrict movement, cause pain, and affect deep core function for years. Dr. Loretta Barry includes hands-on scar tissue work for all C-section patients starting when the incision has adequately healed.

The Process

Restore. Retrain. Reclaim.

Every postpartum recovery program at Floora follows this three-phase framework, tailored to your specific starting point and goals.

1

Restore

Reduce pain and tension, improve breathing mechanics, and build a safe foundation. We address what's not working before adding load.

2

Retrain

Improve coordination between your pelvic floor, core, and breathing system. Targeted exercise designed around your real-life demands.

3

Reclaim

Rebuild confidence and strength to return to the activities you love — running, lifting, hiking, parenting — without limitations or fear.

Common Questions

Postpartum PT — What You Need to Know

When should I start postpartum physical therapy?

You can often start within a few weeks of birth, even before your 6-week OB clearance. Early sessions focus on breathing mechanics, posture, and gentle pelvic floor awareness. Dr. Loretta Barry will meet you exactly where you are and progress treatment appropriately.

Is postpartum PT only for vaginal births?

Absolutely not. C-section recovery requires just as much specialized PT. Scar tissue management, deep core retraining after abdominal surgery, and pressure management are all critical after a cesarean. Dr. Loretta Barry regularly treats moms recovering from both vaginal and surgical births.

Is it too late if my baby is already 2 years old?

Never. The pelvic floor responds to the right treatment regardless of how long you've been experiencing symptoms. Many of Dr. Loretta Barry's patients are 1, 2, or 3+ years postpartum when they start. The body has a remarkable capacity to improve.

What does a session involve?

Sessions begin with an assessment of how your pelvic floor, core, and breathing mechanics are working together. Treatment includes hands-on manual therapy, specific therapeutic exercises, and education on safe daily movement. Sessions are 1-on-1, in your home or at the clinic.

Do I need a referral for postpartum physical therapy in Sacramento?

No. California allows direct access to physical therapy, so you can book with Dr. Loretta Barry without a referral from your OB or primary care doctor.
